3 Food Groups You Should Avoid

"What do we need to survive?"

I like to ask myself this question when I'm stressed, get injured snowboarding or don't find time to be active. On the bare bones level all we need is to be active, have relationships, drink water, sleep and eat. These are crucial to our success in achieving goals.

Moreover, I decided to focus on what I was eating when I watched Nicholas Muller's film "Fruition". He made it clear that we need healthy foods to have a clear mind and a mobile body. It's almost like a car: You can put crappy oil in it, but it will run better and last longer if you use premium oil. So here are the 3 food groups that we can easily exclude from our diets in order to keep our engines running better and longer.

1. Sugar
We should all know this one. It's addicting and our body turns it into fat. It doesn't add any nutritional value. I mentioned before that it's easy to exclude these food items. Sugar may seem hard because it adds tons and tons of flavor to a variety of plates. However, I've noticed that once we exclude it, we can easily adapt and find recipes, foods and drinks that don't have added sugar. I don't mean diet drinks because substitutes of sugar are bad too, but just food without added sugar. Also, I still eat food with natural sugars like fruit because our body does a pretty good job processing natural sugar.

2. Refined Flour Foods
Many of the flour-based foods we eat are bleached!! This is usually what has happened to create refined flour foods. Some examples are white bread and most of our flour tortillas. We can easily avoid this by buying flour-based food that has not been dyed or altered. Another option is exploring gluten free foods: bread, muffins, etc with a base of rice or potatoes.

4. Dairy

Much of our diet consists of milk-based food. Unfortunately, dairy products have hormones that are bodies can't process very well. We were made to intake human milk rather than animal milk. However, this category is a lot harder. Rather, I strive to reduce my dairy input and explore other options to dairy rather than eliminate it altogether. Some other options are pea-protein, flax, almond or soy milk. Usually these alternatives have more protein as well.

Let's see if we can avoid these foods and continue to build a healthier lifestyle together ! Thanks for the read and comment your ideas/opinions below.

There is an older couple not far from my daughter's house down in Roy, & they sell fresh goat's milk for about $150/quart...it tastes really good...I do love Almond milk too...
